The Legacy of Bodegas Aragonesas

Founded in 1984, Bodegas Aragonesas draws on a tradition that began in 1145, when Cistercian monks in the Monastery of Veruela cultivated Garnacha grapes in the fields around Fuendejalón, Zaragoza. The estate’s vineyards—some over 100 years old—thrive in red, stony soils and a continental climate, creating wines of distinct character and exceptional quality. Their flagship brands, including Fagus, Coto de Hayas, and Garnacha Centenaria, have earned international acclaim and awards for their expressive style and commitment to viticultural excellence.

Campo de Borja: Spain’s Garnacha Empire

Campo de Borja is regarded as the “Empire of Garnacha.” It is located in northwest Zaragoza, nestled between the Ebro River plains and the Iberian mountain ranges. Its viticultural heritage stretches back to Roman times, with renewed winemaking activity fostered by Christian monks after the Reconquest. The region received official Denominación de Origen (DO) status in 1977, covering 16 municipalities, and is famed for old-vine Garnacha—about 40% of the vineyards are 30–50 years old. The dramatic climate—hot, dry summers, cold winters, and the mighty Moncayo mountain—creates ideal conditions for Garnacha, giving the wines their unmistakable structure and aromatic intensity.
